چکیده
Pedicle screw fixation is extensively performed to treat spine injuries or diseases and it common for thoracolumbar fractures. Post-operative complications may arise from this surgery leading back pain revisions. Finite element (FE) models could be used predict the outcomes of surgeries but should verified when both simplified realistic designs screws are used. The aim study was generate patient-specific Computed Tomography (CT)-based FE human vertebrae with two pedicle screws, verify models, use them evaluate effect screws’ size geometry on mechanical properties screws-vertebra structure. lumbar vertebra implanted were created anonymized CT-scans three patients. Compressive loads applied head screws. mesh optimized a refinement study. Finally, optimal sensitivity model changes in screw’s (diameter length) (realistic simplified). For sizes 0.6 mm 1.0 bone allowed obtain relative differences approximately 5% lower. Changes length resulted 4–10% maximum deflection, 1–6% peak stress 10–22% mean strain around screw; diameter 28–36% 6–27% 30–47% screw. deflection predicted correlated very well ( R 2 = 0.99). design 0.82) underestimated stress. In conclusion, results showed that has major role mechanics screw-vertebral structure each patient. Simplified can estimate vertebrae, systematic underestimation considered interpreting analyses.

The correlation between insertion torque of pedicle screws with bone mineral density values in posterior lumbar pedicle screw fixation
INTRODUCTION: In a pedicle screw fixation, the degree of osseointegration between a screw and the bone is an essential factor for the stability and fusion. In patients with osteoporosis, however, there is a high possibility for a pedicle screw loosening. Owing to this, there is a difficulty in determining the surgical indications. Previous biomechanical studies have reported that a pedicle scre...
متن کاملTreatment of neuromuscular scoliosis with posterior-only pedicle screw fixation
BACKGROUND To determine whether posterior-only approach using pedicle screws in neuromuscular scoliosis population adequately addresses the correction of scoliosis and maintains the correction over time. METHODS Between 2003 and 2006, 26 consecutive patients (7 cerebral palsy, 10 Duchenne muscular dystrophy, 5 spinal muscular atrophy and 4 others) with neuromuscular scoliosis underwent poster...

STUDY DESIGN Clinical case series. PURPOSE In the posterior lumbar interbody fusion (PLIF) procedure in our institute, the cephalad screw trajectory follows a mediolateral and caudocephalad directed path according to the original cortical bone trajectory (CBT) method. However, the starting point of the caudal screw is at the medial border of the pedicle on an articular surface of the superior...

Surgical treatment of thoracolumbar burst fractures with posterior short-segment pedicle fixation usually provides excellent initial correction of kyphotic deformity, but a significant amount of correction can be lost afterwards. This study evaluates the clinical relevance of the short-segment pedicle fixation supplemented by laminar hooks (2HS-1SH) construct in the surgical treatment of thorac...
